This plain rectangle buckle will accommodate a strap of 1 3/8″ with an overall size of 1 3/4″ by 3 1/4″. Being relatively long this is fashionable for late 18th century wear. In 1776 there were “Stolen from a Store . . . several broken dozen of shoe and knee buckles” in New Jersey.
