BCS 131 Pair of Brass Shoe Buckles

This circa 1750s buckle was originally found with near Fort Ticonderoga. It will accommodate a strap of up to 1 1/8″ which is a smaller size (1 1/2″ by 2 1/4″ overall) good for a woman’s shoe or an early 18th century man’s shoe. As cited in The Newport Mercury in 1764, “Ran away . . .  an Indented Servant Man . . .  has a pair of close work’d Silver Buckles in his Shoes” from personal communication with Mike Barbieri.
