Men's and Women's Neckwear
Both, men and women wore a garment around their neck throughout the 18th century. Women wore a handkerchief while men wore either a handkerchief, neck cloth (aka cravat) or a stock. White was the wealthy person's choice of neckwear whereas the poor wore white but also printed. Wealthy men wore stocks throughout the 18th century but neck cloths were more fashionable for the first half of the 18th century.
