This portfolio measures 9 3/8 by 6 inches (23.8 by 15.2 cm) with two pockets lined in marbled paper each of which opens at the mouth to about 1 1/2 inches (4 cm). It's red Moroccan leather cover is embossed with 22 kt. gold inlay for further effect. For a written example of their use this is taken from London's The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, of 1791 in an "grand larceny" trial a man "was indicted for stealing . . . one wooden trunk covered with sealskin, value 20 s." within the trunk was "fifty-nine original drawings, of Dutch and Flemish masters, also in a portfolio".
