This interesting spencer has a fitted back but a drawstring front and is copied after an original in the Daughter's of the American Revolution Museum in Washington DC. The back seams and separate shoulder straps similar to 18th century construction flair at the back seams similar to later styles. This garment may have been similar to one in The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, London of 1806, in a theft trial a team of four thieves "was indicted for feloniously stealing" among other items "one velvet spencer trimmed with lace, value 2 l.".
