Military Stock Clasp


A brass neck stock clasp similar to this is pictured in the Encyclopedia of the American Revolution. This is the common type of clasp worn by soldiers and less commonly by civilians. During a 1741 ordinary's account printed in The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, London "Joseph Huddle . . . was indicted for assaulting Thomas Cain in a certain Field near the King's Highway, putting him in Fear, &c. and taking from him . . . a Stock, value 3 d. a Stock Clasp, value 9 d."
