Made in the USA
Being made of solid brass, they may be polished with no fear of loosing their color. Polished smooth, these buttons have no sharp edges to cut your thread and having a round soldered shank that works very well when attaching buttons with tape. Domed and rimmed metal buttons are sometimes referred to as the 'French Marine' button but were actually a common type of civilian button as well. Several examples of buttons very similar to these may be found on pages 59 and 60 of Gentlemen on the Frontier: A Pictorial Record of the Culture of Michilimackinac. In The Virginia Gazette in 1775 "a Dutch servant . . . a baker by trade . . . Had on, and took with him, a blue coat with brass buttons".
