Size 18-28 Two Canezous c. 1795-1815 213

Pattern By: Fig Leaf

Made in the USA

These two Canezous are lovely examples of a jacket style that developed in France in 1795 as the new higher waisted gowns came into fashion. These were meant to be worn over a gown like a Spencer. Later fashion plates show a long sleeved version made from velvet. Canezou A was embroidered after it was constructed and is a fine example of needlework. Canezou B has tambour work designs in an allover pattern. More than likely this work was done before the fabric was cut.
