1/8″ White Cotton Tape – 250 yard spool

$37.50

Made in the USA

This is the narrowest cotton tape you’ll find! It works very well for ties in lady’s caps. This tape may be used as stay laces when the eyelet’s are very small but 1/4″ is recommended, and to tie the back of breeches but again 1/4″ often works better. Directions for securely sewing cotton tape on to a garment are found in The Lady’s Guide to Plain Sewing Book II. In 1783 in The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, London “WILLIAM HATCHMAN was indicted for feloniously stealing . . .  24 yards of cotton tape, value 4 s.”

From the spool in the picture half the tape will be removed.

Description

Cotton tape isn’t found in original garments before c. 1830s. However, if there’s one place to lower the price of a garment often it lies with the tape. For example 1/8″ cotton tape used to attach buttons is usually completely enclosed within the lining of the garment so that it’s all concealed. Narrow tape is also used to tie the back of the trousers or breeches & in to tie petticoats & aprons where few will see it.
