This includes a full scale pattern for adding one of two styles of whitework embroidery single or double elbow flounces to the sleeves of a gown and making elbow length fingerless mitts with a pattern for embroidery. In The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, London of 1783 “BENJAMIN WILLIAMS was indicted for feloniously stealing . . . one muslin flounce, value 8 s.” And
in The Pennsylvania Packet of 1773 “Ran away . . . an Irish servant girl . . . she had on and took with her . . . a pair of black silk mitts” as cited in Wives, Slaves, and Servant Girls.
